After our grand tour of Turkey for 2 weeks, we boarded the plane in Istanbul at 10:30am for our new adventures in Greece. The flight was only about an hour long, and we arrived safely in our hotel in Athens in the early afternoon. We had the rest of the afternoon free to explore the surrounding blocks where we found our first Greek gyros, Greek coffee, lamb roasts, and even picked up a guard dog along the way. Some members of the group were even excited to be staying just 2 blocks away from many of the government offices where there have been protests against European Union austerity measures.

Since tomorrow is the Greek Easter, we attended a midnight mass to celebrate. Dinner included many new dishes for everyone to try. For example: stuffed grape leaves, fried cheese, Greek salad, and fried zucchini balls. The main dishes were all good too. Michalis even surprised the girls with roses.

Everyone lights candles and stands around to watch the prayers. |
