Day 21: Western Crete

We traveled to the West of Crete. Our first stop was to a little typical Cretan picturesque village where we bought some souvenirs and took pictures of the houses.

Then we stopped to do a nature walk to a Hellenistic bridge in Eleutheria. We entered from the southern entrance and to our surprise we never found the bridge, however we did find a fortification tower, some Roman cisterns, a fountain area, cool plants and a couple skeletons of goats.

Adventures with Lynn!

After our hike, we drove to the Arkadi Monastery. This was a place where some Cretans ended up blowing themselves up while fighting with the Turks, thus many people died here. We did get blessed by a nun.

A part of the shrapnel was left behind in this tree.

Lunch was in Rethymnon at a local café. The rest of the day we relaxed and enjoyed the town.
